Beograd, Mali Kalemegdan 8
The Belgrade Zoo, also known as the Garden of Good Hope, is situated in one of the most attractive city locations – Kalemegdan Park. The Zoo was opened in 1936 and is one of the oldest zoos in Europe. It covers 6 hectares, has 2000 animals (about 200 species), and besides wild animals has also domestic animals. Its nice appearance is also the result of the many objects that have been built –renewed infrastructure, fountains, Wood sculptures Gallery (works by Vuk Bojovic), Baby-zoo (newly born animals). For its 60th birthday the Zoo was enriched by a monument of Sami, a chimpanzee, the former most popular and loved zoo dweller. Nearly every week the Zoo is in the media. News are many: from the birth of a young to different manifestations and promotions. This is how the Zoo became present in the daily life of Belgrade, enriching the city by its breath of good natured atmosphere, thus with good reason called the Garden of Good Hope.
